You don't have any such options in Microsoft To Do. For example, in Todoist, you can create and save a custom filter that is essentially an advanced search, such as all tasks in the Personal list that are due in the next seven days, or all tasks labeled high priority that are past due. Other to-do list apps let you create custom views, sometimes called filters, so that you decide which tasks you see. The ones you get include My Day, showing all tasks due today, and Important, showing tasks to which you've added a star, among others. The view options are all premade, and there's no way to make your own custom views. In that left rail are views and lists of tasks that you create. ![]() Microsoft To Do is available on all major platforms, including macOS (shown). To Do's interface looks similar to many apps in the space, with a navigation bar on the left showing different options for viewing your tasks, the tasks themselves in the middle, and additional information on the right when available. To get the app which is available for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and the web you need a Microsoft account, which could be a business or school email run by Microsoft, an email, or Skype credentials. As a point of comparison, a Pro account with Editors' Choice winner Todoist costs $5 per month or $48 per year. One excellent aspect of Microsoft To Do is that it's free. Microsoft To Do is really only worth using if you're highly invested in a Microsoft ecosystem and are willing to learn all the deep tricks that make it unique, even if those tricks require excessive effort. For everyone else who just wants a great to-do list app out of the box, you can't get that from Microsoft. Second-and it's a problem with many Microsoft products-if you want to get the full potential out of To Do, you need to be using it in a full Microsoft ecosystem. Meanwhile, Microsoft was building a new app from scratch and trying to reach feature parity with the 2015 version of Wunderlist, so it essentially fell behind all the other apps as the years ticked by. First, since 2015, the best to-do list apps have perfected natural language input, created customizable views, and innovated what a to-do list app could be. Wunderlist has been gone for more than a few years now, and yet the app that replaced it, Microsoft To Do, lags behind the best to-do list apps significantly because it's missing so many key features that are at the core of other to-do lists. When Microsoft acquired the beloved to-do app called Wunderlist in 2015, it said it would discontinue Wunderlist permanently, but only after rebuilding all the best features of that app into a new one to replace it. But, you won’t enjoy as many features as you’ll get in a full-fledged task management app. If you need a simple task management app you don’t need to pay a dime for, To Do is a perfect choice. But, it’s completely free, while the rivals are freemium or strictly paid apps. To Do doesn’t have as many task management features as you’ll see in these competing apps. They include popular ones such as Todoist and TickTick. There are countless task management apps rivaling To Do. In such a case, you can contact Microsoft’s support team directly through live chat. You may not be satisfied with the information on the FAQ page. This page is easily accessible on the web interface or desktop or mobile app. If you encounter any challenges with the To Do app, the first place to consult is the FAQ page, which contains solutions to commonly experienced problems. The To Do app has a minimal, uncluttered interface. The app has limited third-party integration, which we consider a disadvantage. The best thing you can do now is flag an email in Microsoft Outlook to have it show up as a task on the To Do app. Though Microsoft has promised to integrate the To Do app with its other apps, it hasn’t delivered much. You can invite people to join any task list through an invitation email or a direct link. The To Do app supports collaboration to some extent. For example, on Todoist, a popular to-do-list app, you can group multiple tasks under one umbrella to help you stay focused. The To Do app’s sorting feature is helpful for organizing tasks, but not as good as a grouping feature, which the app lacks. ![]()
